Top Tips from West Yorkshire Skin Care Expert Haven House Holistics
Being a skin care expert in West Yorkshire for more years than I can remember! I’m seeing lots of clients at this time of year with many common skin issues. Let me help you with some of my top tips and skincare advice to get you through this harsh (on the face) winter months!
It’s the same every year Karen!
Wind, rain and heating causes havoc with our faces at this time of year. Not to mention a change in our eating habits (hello cheese board!) and the odd glass of mulled wine over Christmas.
Burning the candles at both ends with Christmas, ferrying the kids to various clubs now they’re back at school, as well as fitting in the food shop! It’s like you never had a break over Christmas (or maybe you didn’t!).
Well, why not grab a cuppa and take a just 10 minutes to yourself and have a little read of my tips to help your winter skin.
Cleanse; I know after a full on day with work, the house, errands and all the other things that fill your day, the last thing you want to do is wash your face, you probably just want to face plant the bed. I promise though, by cleansing your face every night has such positive effects. A gentle face massage with your cleanser into the skin, releases make up and ‘the day’ from your face and stimulating the epidermis (top layer of the skin). Remember, we don’t want squeaky clean, something that’s nourishing on the skin will be just lovely. Especially if your skin is ‘tight’, a sign your skin is dehydrated.
Exfoliating – Using a face cloth or flannel (as my gran used to say) when removing your cleanser also gently exfoliates the skin. Remember to try and use a clean one every day if you can. If you’re using a separate exfoliator, you may not need to use this more than once a week. if in doubt, ask me about it the next time you’re in for a facial. If you’re skin is flaky, then this wash cloth will help with the removal of the dead skin cells and replenish new cells quicker!
Moisturising – Definitely another one not to miss out on. If you feel your current cream, isn’t quite cutting it, let me know! Pinks Boutique have an incredible Organic and Vegan skincare range that I use on my clients. Or I can make a specific Aromatherapy Associates skin blend for you, another fave from my treatment list; a Signature Facial.
SPF – Not just for the beach. If your skin is feeling hypersensitive or you are concerned about Anti Ageing, then a facial SPF will be helpful to you. I’m not talking the factor 15 in your foundation (although it’s better than nothing!) I’m talking a specific SPF for the face all year round. Vitamin D exposure is great, but if you look at having a factor 30 under your make up or just a slick on before you head out and walk the dog, it’ll help with that sensitivity and winter sun exposure.
Wellbeing – Yes yes, all good about the skin and actively what we can do, but stress can cause havoc with your face and body. So try and take 10 minutes for you or even 5 minutes if you can. A few deep breaths can help calm the nervous system whilst you’re taking out the waste bin, or pausing for a minute with some music on after the food shop before you head back home. Small snippets of time for YOU in your day can make a huge difference.
