The Benefits of Gua Sha, a Natural Alternative Healing Therapy
Here at Haven House, we embrace lots of alternative healing techniques and one of our favourites is Gua Sha.
This healing technique originates in traditional Eastern medicine and is a natural alternative healing therapy that is reputed to help with ailments such as migraines, sleep issues, perimenopausal symptoms and skin conditions. It can help reduce anxiety and boost circulation.
It can be a soothing relaxing treatment that can be utilised alongside massage and heat therapy and is a wonderfully invigorating therapy. It’s great for those people who sit at desks staring at a screen every day – all those hunched shoulders will feel super relaxed with our Gua Sha treatment!
How Does Gua Sha Work?
Here at Haven House, we use special smooth edged Gua Sha tools to scrape and massage the skin to increase blood flow. We’re particularly interested in lymphatic drainage so that we can get all your blood recirculating to all the important bits and get your muscles contracting and moving. Depending on which part of the body we are concentrating on, we slowly build pressure on the targeted area to release toxins in your body and helping to heal your body from within. Treatments involve a variety of specialist tools made from quartz, jade and amethyst.
Can you have Gua Sha Treatment on your Face?
This therapy is believed to be incredibly beneficial for lots of facial areas. It can reduce inflammation and puffyness and can even reduce sinus pressure. Research says that it can help smooth your skin, boost your collagen and rebalance your energy. According to some, it can help your face to look more toned! Like a mini non surgical face lift!
Will I feel Tired after a Treatment?
All the lovely massages here at Haven House will help you feel totally relaxed and more centred. If your treatment involves Gua Sha, you may feel a little more tired than normal and that’s due to the scraping technique which will increase lymphatic drainage. If you are having treatment for tendinitis or a strained muscle, you might be slightly tender in some areas the following day with occasional light bruising.
Will my Skin be Red after the Treatment?
Occasionally, your skin may be a little more red after a treatment. This is due to the scraping procedure, which whilst gentle on your face and more firm on your body, can increase blood flow to the area. But it will soon dissipate and there’s no pain involved. Occasionally, your skin might feel a little bit tender but this too will ease a day or two later. I use warming essential oils first during treatment to prepare the skin to ensure your skin and muscles feel absolutely wonderful and no deep tissue damage is involved.
