Vegan Holistic & Well-being Therapist West Yorkshire.
As a vegan holistic therapist, I love animals. The products I use are Organic and not tested on animals, but there’s one I don’t like and that is snakes!
Karen, why are you telling us about your fear of snakes? Grab a cuppa and I’ll tell you all about Norman the Baby Boa Constrictor and a new client that I’ve welcomed to Haven House.
BIRTHDAY GIRL
I was gifted a lovely birthday present which involved reptiles and snakes. It was ‘How to be an animal handler for the day’ at a local Sanctuary. I love all animals, but I hate snakes, no particular reason why, they just give me the heebie-jeebies! So I was definitely in the camp of ‘I’m not going anywhere near them, thank you very much!’ My friend knew I wasn’t keen, why on earth would she buy me something so ridiculous? You know, a candle always goes down well with me.
So throughout the course of the day, I held a Tarantula and fed a Rhino! But as soon as it came to the snakes, I froze!
No no, not on your life am I going to hold a snake. But I began wondering how can this tiny little reptile scare me so much! I walked out of the hut to the safety of the smaller reptiles.
After a few minutes of giving myself a talking to, I wandered back to where little harmful Norman was. Spoke with the handler and asked if I could hold him. Several deep breaths and big girl pants ON. Norman was placed into my hands!
I almost cried, with fear and with elation! I was HOLDING A SNAKE! Me, holding a Boa Constrictor! I couldn’t believe it. After a few seconds, I decided that was quite enough and I was so flippin’ happy I’d conquered one of my biggest fears.
I’m scared to visit a therapist.
I was telling this story to a lady I’d met in the pub and she said how brave I was and confided in me that visiting a therapist was one of her biggest fears. This isn’t uncommon. With the number of clients I’ve seen over the last 20 or so years, people are conscious about their bodies. They don’t like their wobbly bits or they have varicose veins or a big birthmark on their back. I’ve seen it all, trust me.
What I care about most is you! Not your wobbly bits. It’s your well-being and why you’re with me in the first place, I’m most interested in.
This lovely lady had been watching what I do through my social media channels and after our little chat, she decided to come in for an appointment. Facing her fear and after a full consultation, we began her treatment.
Sheer Joy!
The response from her afterwards was sheer joy. After all these years, she’s a convert!
What are you fearful of when visiting a therapist? Let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
